Dante was a sixteen year old high school junior who was exhibiting a number of alcohol-related difficulties at school. As a result, the principal explained to him that he had to see Miss Johnson, the school therapist, before he would be allowed to return to class.

Later that afternoon when Dante went home after school, he had to explain his school expulsion to his Mother and Father. His Mom and Dad were “relatively old-style” and explained to Dante that getting expelled from school was not a workable educational option. They explained to Dante that failing to graduate from high school would most probably be like a lead weight around his feet that could probably hurt his educational attainment for the rest of his adult life. What is more, Dante’s parents were very displeased that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his peers in the second.

His Mother and Father informed Dante that even though he may be a teen, he needs to comprehend fairly rapidly that drinking is the pathway to ill health, financial problems, pain, and failure.

It was apparent that his Mom and Dad were in total agreement with Dante’s principal and told Dante that he had better come to the realization that he needs to see Miss Johnson, the school therapist. After his discussion with his parents, Dante finally agreed to see Miss Johnson the next school day. So Dante phoned the school and made an appointment to see Miss Johnson the next afternoon.

The Therapist Asks Dante if He Understands Why His Recent Alcohol-Related Behavior Caused Quite a Bit of Anxiety By the School Administrators

When Dante arrived at his scheduled appointment with Miss Johnson, she promptly went over all of the alcohol-related issues Dante had experienced and asked him if he understood why his recent alcohol-related behavior caused quite a bit of concern by the school administrators.

Quite honestly, Dante was unsure why the principal explained to him that he had to see a school counselor. As he stated to Miss Johnson, why should he see a professional therapist about his drinking activities? Since almost all of his friends drink the same amount that he does, primarily, drinking is no big thing. Stated more directly, if just about everybody is drinking, why is this such a major problem?

Miss Johnson asked Dante when he started to drink alcoholic beverages. He said that some of his older classmates introduced him to drinking hard liquor when he was twelve or thirteen years old and getting ready to enter the seventh grade.

Miss Johnson told Dante that while his classmates may indeed drink more than he does and that they may be an unhealthy influence on him, the facts are that he is the one who is getting kicked out of school due to alcohol-related absenteeism, fighting, and delinquency, not his buddies. Moreover, Miss Johnson also underscored the fact that Dante, and not his buddies, is the one who is failing and who is missing at least two days of school every week because of his alcohol related issues. Finally, Miss Johnson underscored the fact that due to his drinking activities, Dante is getting into a negative cycle of abusive drinking that can eventually wreck his aspirations, hopes, and dreams.

In short, Dante’s involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was starting to foil his ability to conduct himself like an accountable young man. As pronounced by Miss Johnson, “Just because most of your pals drink wine, wine coolers, hard liquor, or beer does not mean that it is the healthiest thing in the world for you.”

Dante Learns That Sooner or Later He Must Claim Responsibility For Himself In Order to Prevent Damaging, Dangerous, Destructive, and Unhealthy Outcomes In the Future

Miss Johnson informed Dante that other individuals can undeniably influence a person in a negative way, but that the individual herself or himself has to in due course take responsibility for herself or himself in order to stay away from destructive, dangerous, damaging, and unhealthy effects in the foreseeable future.

Luckily, Miss Johnson was extremely well prepared for her appointment with Dante. She showed him reports and research studies she had highlighted that summarized diverse drinking statistics and facts that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Dante quite a lot of data that applied principally to teens.

For example, Miss Johnson highlighted the difference between alcohol abuse and alcoholism and explained to Dante that drinkers who continue to drink in an excessive manner commonly become alcoholic.

Miss Johnson also explained the concept of binge drinking that she defined as follows: ingesting five or more drinks in one sitting for males and consuming four or more drinks in one sitting for females.

The Psychologist States A Number Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Addiction Statistics and Facts

Then Miss Johnson presented various alcohol facts and the following eight alcohol abuse statistics:

1. Alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction cost the United States an estimated 0 billion in 2005. This dollar amount was more than the cost correlated with cancer (6 billion) or with obesity (3 billion.

2. More than one-half of U.S. adults have a close family member or relative who has or has had alcohol addiction.

3. More than three fourths of female victims of nonfatal, domestic violence reported that their assailant had been using drugs or drinking.

4. In the U.S. on a yearly basis, more than thirty-three percent of pedestrians killed by automobiles were legally intoxicated.

5. One national survey found that students are less likely to use alcohol if they are socially accepted by people at school and feel that teachers treat students fairly.

6. Research demonstrates that youth who drink alcohol may remember 10 percent less of what they have learned than adolescents who don’t drink.

7. Roughly 10% to 20% of the individuals who drink in a hazardous manner in due course develop cirrhosis of the liver (i.e., a scarring of the liver that can be fatal).

8. Up to forty percent of the U.S. industrial fatalities and 47% of industrial injuries are linked to alcoholism or alcohol abuse.

Dante Receives A Much Needed Primer on the Facts Concerning the Short Term and the Long Term Consequences of Youth Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Addiction

After Miss Johnson conveyed the aforementioned alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction statistics and facts, it was evident that what Miss Johnson revealed to Dante was a real jolt to him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to articulate the long term and the short term consequences of alcohol abuse and alcoholism, but she also made the effort to authenticate what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics and facts that related to everyone in general, and principally to teens.

To be sure, it was almost as if a light went on and Dante immediately comprehended why he should not be engaging in abusive and hazardous drinking with or without his classmates anymore. Dante thanked Miss Johnson for her concern and for the information she presented.

Miss Johnson then asked Dante how he felt about getting a physical exam and an alcohol assessment for the alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction rehabilitation he would probably need.

Dante thought about this for few minutes and then agreed to get a thorough physical and to go through a thorough appraisal of his drinking behavior so that he could start an alcohol rehab program as soon as possible.

Later that afternoon when Dante went home after school, he had to clarify his school situation to his parents. His parents were “relatively traditional” and told Dante that getting thrown out of school was not an acceptable educational game plan. They explained to Dante that failing to graduate from high school would likely be like a lead weight around his legs that could probably impede his educational aspirations for the remainder of his adult life. What is more, Dante’s parents were very dissatisfied that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his friends in the second.

It was plain to see that his Mother and Father were out and out in full accord with Dante’s principal and informed Dante that he had better come to the realization that he needs to see Miss Johnson, the school psychologist. After his conversation with his Mom and Dad, Dante finally agreed to see Miss Johnson the next day. So Dante called the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Johnson the next day during his fifth period class.

The Counselor Asks Dante if He Understands Why His Recent Alcohol-Related Behavior Caused Quite a Bit of Apprehension By the School Administrators

When Dante went to see Miss Johnson, she instantly examined all of the alcohol-related difficulties Dante had gotten into and asked him if he comprehended why his recent alcohol-related activities were such a cause for concern.

Quite frankly, Dante wondered why the principal told him he had to see a school counselor. As he stated to Miss Johnson, why should he see a professional therapist about his drinking behavior? Since virtually all of his classmates drink as much if not more than he does, basically, drinking is no big issue. Stated more forcefully, if almost everyone is drinking, why is this such a big thing?

Miss Johnson asked Dante when he started to drink alcoholic beverages. He said that some of his older friends introduced him to drinking wine coolers when he was twelve or thirteen years old and in the seventh grade.

Lastly, Miss Johnson emphasized the fact that because of his drinking circumstances, Dante is getting into a dangerous cycle of hazardous drinking that can ultimately destroy his aspirations, hopes, and dreams.

In short, Dante’s involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to foil his ability to conduct himself like a responsible young man. As articulated by Miss Johnson, “Just because most of your pals drink wine, hard liquor, wine coolers, or beer does not mean that it is the best option for you.”

Fortunately, Miss Johnson was very well prepared for her scheduled appointment with Dante. She showed him research studies and reports she had underlined that listed different drinking statistics and facts that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Dante a lot of figures and reports that applied principally to adolescents.

As an illustration, Miss Johnson emphasized the difference between alcoholism and alcohol abuse and told Dante that individuals who continue to drink in an abusive manner habitually become addicted to alcohol.

Miss Johnson also articulated the concept of binge drinking which she defined as follows: ingesting five or more drinks in one sitting for males and consuming four or more drinks in one sitting for females.

The Therapist States Several Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism Statistics and Facts

Then Miss Johnson articulated various alcohol facts and the following eight alcohol abuse statistics:

Dante Gets A Meaningful Jolt of Reality About the Short Term and the Long Term Results of Underage Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism

After Miss Johnson presented the aforementioned alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency statistics and facts, it was apparent that what Miss Johnson taught Dante was a wake up call for him. Why?

Dante was a eighteen year old high school senior who was displaying numerous alcohol-related difficulties at school. As a result, the principal told him that he had to see Miss Johnson, the school psychologist, before he would be permitted to come back to class.

Later that afternoon when Dante went home after school, he had to explain his school expulsion to his parents. His Mother and Father were “relatively old fashioned” and informed Dante that getting removed from school was not a doable educational game plan. They told Dante that failing to graduate from high school would more likely than not be like a lead weight around his feet that could probably inhibit his educational achievement for the remainder of his adult life. Furthermore, Dante’s Mom and Dad were quite dismayed that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his pals in the second.

They informed Dante that even though he may be a teen, he has to understand without much delay that drinking is the map to financial problems, failure, ill health, and pain.

It was plain to see that his Mother and Father were absolutely in agreement with Dante’s principal and told Dante that he needs to see Miss Johnson, the school counselor. After his discussion with his parents, Dante in due course agreed to see Miss Johnson the next school day. So Dante called the school and made an appointment to see Miss Johnson the next afternoon.

The Therapist Asks Dante if He Knows Why His Recent Alcohol-Related Actions Signaled Such Alarm By the School Administrators

When Dante arrived at his scheduled appointment with Miss Johnson, she instantly reviewed all of the alcohol-related issues Dante had gotten into and asked him if he understood why his recent alcohol-related behavior gave the school administrators room for alarm.

Quite frankly, Dante wondered why the principal told him he had to see a school counselor. As he stated to Miss Johnson, why should he see a professional psychologist about his drinking circumstances? Since almost all of his buddies drink about as much as he does, drinking really shouldn’t be such a big deal. Stated another way, if nearly everyone is drinking, why is this such a major concern?

Miss Johnson asked Dante when he started to drink. He said that some of his older friends introduced him to drinking beer when he was twelve or thirteen years old and getting ready to enter junior high school.

Miss Johnson explained to Dante that while his buddies may indeed drink more than he does and that they may be a bad influence on him, the facts are that he is the one who is getting expelled from school due to alcohol-related absenteeism, fighting, and delinquency, not his buddies. Furthermore, Miss Johnson also underlined the fact that Dante, and not his classmates, is the one who is failing and who is missing one day of class per week due to his alcohol related issues. Finally, Miss Johnson highlighted the fact that due to his drinking activities, Dante is getting into a damaging cycle of hazardous drinking that can sooner or later ruin his aspirations, hopes, and dreams.

In short, Dante’s involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to foil his ability to behave like an accountable young man. As verbalized by Miss Johnson, “Just because most of your buddies drink wine coolers, wine, beer, or hard liquor does not mean that it is the appropriate behavior for you.”

Dante Learns That At the End of the Day He Must Be Responsible For Himself In Order to Keep Away From Dangerous, Destructive, Damaging, and Unhealthy Outcomes Down the Road

Miss Johnson explained to Dante that one’s friends can definitely influence an individual in a negative manner, but that the person herself or himself has to in the long run take responsibility for herself or himself in order to steer clear of damaging, destructive, unhealthy, and dangerous consequences in the future.

Luckily, Miss Johnson was very well equipped for her scheduled appointment with Dante. She showed him reports and research studies she had highlighted that outlined various drinking statistics and facts that applied to most people in general. Then she showed Dante a lot of information that applied chiefly to teens.

For example, Miss Johnson highlighted the difference between alcohol abuse and alcoholism and explained to Dante that drinkers who continue to drink in a hazardous manner more often than not become alcoholic.

Miss Johnson also went over the concept of binge drinking that she defined as follows: consuming five or more drinks in one sitting for males and drinking four or more drinks in one sitting for females.

The Psychologist Verbalizes Numerous Alcohol Dependency and Alcohol Abuse Statistics and Facts

Then Miss Johnson listed various alcohol facts and the following eight alcohol abuse statistics:

1. The 25.9% of teenage drinkers in the U.S. who are alcohol abusers and alcohol dependent drink 47.3% of the alcohol that is ingested by all teen drinkers.

2. Fifty percent of United States murders are alcohol related.

3. In 2002, U.S. alcohol addiction facts and statistics reported that 2.6 million binge drinkers were between the ages of 12 and 17.

4. It is estimated that more than 3 million teens in the United States between the ages of 14 to 17 are problem drinkers.

5. In the U.S., more than 40% of those who begin drinking at the age 14 or younger become alcohol dependent.

6. Very few of the more than 18 million U.S. alcohol abusers receive the alcohol rehabilitation they need.

7. Teen drinking costs Americans nearly $53 billion annually. If this cost were shared equally by each congressional district, the amount would total more than $120 million per district.

8. Alcohol-related issues are disproportionately found among both adult and juvenile criminal offenders.

Dante Gets A Meaningful Primer on the Facts Concerning the Long Term and the Short Term Results of Youth Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism

After Miss Johnson verbalized the aforementioned alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse facts and statistics, it was evident that what Miss Johnson made known to Dante was a real source of revelation for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to put in plain words the long term and the short term results of alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse, but she also made the effort to support what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcoholism facts and statistics that related to people in general, and particularly to teens.

As a matter of fact, it was almost as if a light went on and Dante instantaneously realized why he should not be engaging in excessive and hazardous drinking with or without his pals any longer. Dante thanked Miss Johnson for her concern and for the material she went over.

Miss Johnson then asked Dante how he felt about getting a physical exam and an alcohol appraisal for the alcohol abuse or alcoholism rehab he would probably need.

Dante thought about this for a minute and then agreed to get a thorough physical examination and to go through a comprehensive evaluation of his drinking circumstances so that he could start an alcohol abuse or alcohol dependency rehabilitation program in a practical time frame.

Larry was a sixteen year old high school junior who was exhibiting numerous alcohol-related difficulties at school. For that reason, the principal explained to him that he had to see Miss Johns, the school therapist, before he would be permitted to come back to school.

Later that day when Larry went home after school, he had to go over his school suspension with his Mom and Dad. His Mom and Dad were “old school” and told Larry that getting removed from school was not a satisfactory educational game plan. They told Larry that failing to graduate from high school would probably be like a lead weight around his legs that could conceivably impair his educational achievement for the rest of his adult life. What is more, Larry’s Mom and Dad were extremely distraught that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his classmates in the second.

His Mother and Father explained to Larry that although he may be a teenager, he needs to realize rather quickly that drinking is the road to failure, ill health, pain, and financial problems.

It was plain to see that his Mother and Father were 100% in agreement with Larry’s principal and told Larry that he had better make plans to see Miss Johns, the school counselor. After his conversation with his parents, Larry finally agreed to see Miss Johns the next school day. So Larry called the school and made an appointment to see Miss Johns the next day during his fifth period class.

The Therapist Asks Larry if He Comprehends Why His Recent Alcohol-Related Behavior Was Such a Cause For Concern By the School Administrators

When Larry went to see Miss Johns, she instantly looked at all of the alcohol-related issues Larry had gotten into and asked him if he comprehended why his recent alcohol-related behavior caused quite a bit of apprehension by the school administrators.

Quite honestly, Larry questioned why the principal informed him that he had to see a school counselor. As he stated to Miss Johns, why should he see a professional therapist about his drinking activities? Due to the fact that virtually all of his classmates drink about as much as he does, in effect, drinking is no big thing. Stated more precisely, if nearly everybody is drinking, why is this such a big thing?

Miss Johns asked Larry when he started to drink. He said that some of his older buddies introduced him to drinking wine coolers when he was twelve or thirteen years old and getting ready to enter the seventh grade.

Miss Johns informed Larry that while his friends may indeed drink more than he does and that they may be an unhealthy influence on him, the facts are that he is the one who is getting discharged from school due to alcohol-related absenteeism, fighting, and delinquency, not his pals. In addition, Miss Johns also emphasized the fact that Larry, and not his classmates, is the one who is failing and who is missing at least one day of school every week due to his alcohol related difficulties. Lastly, Miss Johns emphasized the fact that because of his drinking behavior, Larry is getting into a destructive cycle of excessive drinking that can in due course ruin his dreams, hopes, and aspirations.

In a word, Larry’s involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to foil his ability to act like an accountable young man. As put into words by Miss Johns, “Just because most of your pals drink beer, hard liquor, wine coolers, or wine does not mean that it is the healthiest thing for you.”

Larry Learns That In the Long Run He Must Be Responsible For Himself In Order to Stay Away From Dangerous, Destructive, Unhealthy, and Damaging Situations Down the Road

Miss Johns told Larry that other people can definitely influence an individual in a negative manner, but that the individual herself or himself has to in due course claim responsibility for himself or herself in order to keep away from damaging, unhealthy, dangerous, and destructive consequences down the road.

Luckily, Miss Johns was extremely well prepared for her meeting with Larry. She showed him reports and research studies she had highlighted that summarized different drinking statistics and facts that applied to most people in general. Then she showed Larry quite a bit of data that applied chiefly to teens.

For example, Miss Johns underscored the difference between alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse and explained to Larry that individuals who continue to drink abusively repeatedly become addicted to alcohol.

Miss Johns also went over the concept of binge drinking which she defined as follows: drinking five or more drinks in one sitting for males and consuming four or more drinks in one sitting for females.

The Counselor Presents Numerous Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Addiction Statistics and Facts

Then Miss Johns presented the following eight alcoholism facts and alcohol abuse statistics:

1. As revealed in one study, nearly 11% of 8th-graders, 22% of 10th-graders, and 27% of 12th-graders articulated that they engaged in binge drinking.

2. Between 48% and 64% of the people who perish in fires have blood alcohol levels showing inebriation.

3. Children who are drinking alcohol by 7th grade are more probable to report delinquent behavior, substance abuse, and academic problems in both middle school and high school.

4. In the U.S., 33% of all suicides, 25% of all emergency room admissions, and more than 50% of all homicides and incidents of domestic violence are alcohol-related.

5. In the U.S. among drivers between the ages of 15 and 20, deadly crashes involving a single vehicle at night are three times more probable to be related to alcohol than to other deadly crashes.

6. In the U.S., more than 40 percent of the individuals who start drinking before the age of 13 will develop alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence at some time in their lives.

7. In the U.S, by the time they are high school seniors, 80% of high school students have drank alcohol and 62% have been inebriated.

8. Treatment for alcohol dependency has been demonstrated to decrease criminal activity up to 80% among long-term offenders, has decreased their homelessness, increased their rate of employment, and reduced their health care costs.

Larry Gets A Relevant Jolt of Reality Regarding the Short Term and the Long Term Consequences of Adolescent Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Dependency

After Miss Johns conveyed the aforementioned alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency statistics and facts, it was apparent that what Miss Johns taught Larry was a real source of revelation for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only took the time to articulate the short term and the long term consequences of alcoholism and alcohol abuse, but she also took the time to back up what she was saying with alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse statistics and facts that related to people in general, and particularly to teens.

Definitely, it was almost as if a light went on and Larry instantaneously realized why he should not be engaging in hazardous and abusive drinking with or without his friends any longer. Larry thanked Miss Johns for her concern and for the information she went over.

Miss Johns then asked Larry how he felt about getting a physical exam and an alcohol assessment for the alcohol rehab he would probably need.

Larry thought about this for a minute and then agreed to get a complete physical and to go through a comprehensive appraisal of his drinking circumstances so that he could start an alcohol rehab program in a realistic time frame.
